Aberford Village Hall Redevelopment
Aberford Village Hall Committee are committed to provide Aberford with improved Village Hall facilities which can meet the needs of local residents, businesses and Aberford CofE School. In order to ensure the deliverability of a functional Village Hall a joint venture is being considered which involves the development of the land to the rear of the Village Hall to form a mixed use scheme.
The mixed use scheme proposed will result in the development of a new Village Hall, approximately 14 residential properties, car parking facilities and Public Open Space. Utilising the land to the rear of the Village Hall provides developer contributions towards the Village Hall’s development costs, provides car parking facilities which remove parked cars from Main Street and produces areas of Public Open Space which provide an attractive context and space for the new Village Hall facility. It also gives the Village Hall Committee greater freedom in the creation of a Village Hall facility, which can provide an array of uses without the size and parking constraints associated with the existing plot. These uses include facilities for Aberford CofE School and local businesses. Also under consideration is the potential to include a dedicated crossing facility on Main Street to provide a direct/safe connection between the school and new Village Hall.
What is being applied for?
The proposed development involves the extension of Aberford Village Hall, the development of 14 dwellings and provision of Public Open Space and car parking. The current proposals for the site are shown below:

Aberford Village Hall and the owner of the parcel of land to the rear of the Hall are behind the proposed planning application for the improvements to existing community facilities. The landowner to the rear of the Village Hall is a local resident who is keen to incorporate wider community benefits into the development proposed. Current draft proposals incorporate not only an improved Village Hall, but a communal allotment, nature area and bandstand/outside teaching space.
The redevelopment of the interior of the Village Hall would be of benefit to the local community and it is considered that the proposed outside space will providing functional outside space for use by the Village Hall and an attractive context for the whole development.
